Ernesta I. Johnson
Director of Development and Community Affairs
Ernesta I. Johnson is currently the Director of Development and Community Affairs at the Neighborhood House Association, a San Diego nonprofit social services agency. After 7 years as a Head Start Home Visitor, she was selected for a NHA executive internship program, which lead to her current position with the agency.
Ms. Johnson holds a B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education and has extensive experience in business where she honed sales, organizational and management skills. She has worked as a senior account executive, office manager and trainer, and began her career as an advertising sales account executive for Time Warner Cable. Ms. Johnson is a member of the Pinnacle Honor Society, and an alumni of the San Diego Chamber of Commerce’s LEAD San Diego.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Ms. Johnson has lived in San Diego County since the age of seven. Giving back and paying it forward are very important values for Ms. Johnson. She has worked to raise funds for cancer survivors and Parkinson’s disease foundations, Boys to Men Mentoring, and also led a very successful drive to raise donations for her Striving Phenomenal Woman Campaign for a young mother who was working full time, yet struggling to pay for child care. Every Christmas Day, Ms. Johnson and her family can be found in downtown San Diego providing warm clothing and food for the homeless.
Strong family values are a way of life for the Johnsons. Ms. Johnson married a Navy veteran and they have three adult children.
