Happy 2022 to our Black Infant Health (BIH) family members and partners! As we start this new year it is a good time to look back on our past achievements as we look forward to new opportunities to support Black families and the community.
During 2021, as the COVID pandemic continued, BIH provided services to over 150 women and their families and saw the birth of more than 80 babies, including a few sets of twins! While most of the program services were provided virtually, including enrollments, ongoing assessments, life planning sessions, prenatal and postpartum groups, and breastfeeding classes, BIH participants did have the opportunity to hold an outdoor in-person baby shower as well as a drive through event celebrating black breastfeeding.
The BIH staff is excited for the new year and encourages our participants to take full advantage of all that our program has to offer. In 2022 we hope to see every participant:
- Complete their VIA Analysis
- Work with their Family Health Advocate to set and meet realistic life goals
- Complete their birth plan and ensure their home is baby safe prior to delivery with our Public Health Nurse
- Complete all assessments
- Participate in a prenatal and/or postpartum group with other women
- Take a breastfeeding class
- Earn and spend some “Baby Dollars”
- Attend a Baby Shower
- Meet other women and enjoy the journey to and of parenthood
And don’t forget that BIH offers these supportive services as well:
- Free diapers and wipes
- Lyft transportation assistance for medical appointments
- Availability of a Mental Health Professional and Public Health Nurse
And coming soon:
- Infant Massage Classes
2022 marks 30 years of the Black Infant Health Program in San Diego County. We look forward to making this our best year ever; so, come and join us!
Looking forward to a wonderful year,
