This year will mark the fifth anniversary of the Black Maternal Health Week (BMHW) campaign that starts next week from April 11 to 17th. The week was founded by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance (BMMA), to align with the United States’ recognition of National Minority Health Month each April. The month-long initiative strives to advance health equity across the country on behalf of all racial and ethnic minorities. During National Minority Health Month, the campaign and activities for BMHW serve to bring awareness and amplify the voices of Black Mamas and center the values and traditions of the reproductive and birth justice movements.
The BMHW 2022 theme is “Building for Liberation: Centering Black Mamas, Black Families and Black Systems of Care.” Join in on the celebration of this week of awareness by attending one of their virtual events, including:

- A report from the 2022 Zanzibar Cultural Midwifery Exchange
- A segment of the documentary “Legacy Power Voice: Movements in Black Midwifery”
- 4 midwife panelists sharing about their work
