Many Shades of Pink is a local organization that provides breast cancer support for women of color. The organization aims to support, empower, and provide high-quality breast health resources to women of color in environments that are safe and secure. They are committed to the well-being of our community members, helping them to live longer lives in good health.
The organization was founded by Wendy Shurelds, a long-time healthcare worker and advocate. After fighting and winning her battle with breast cancer, she began advocating for all women, specifically African American women, by educating and empowering them to make their breast health a priority and to ensure access to breast health resources.
Many Shades of Pink, in collaboration with Dr. Suzanne Afflalo (infoahealthierme@gmail.com), hosts a monthly Community Health and Resource Fair at the Jackie Robinson YMCA (151 YMCA Way, San Diego, CA 92102), on the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The health fair offers many free screenings and services, as well as free prizes, raffles, and food distribution.
