For fifty years Head Start has been the premier model for providing the whole child an opportunity for success in school and in life. Since the summer of 1965, more than 31 million children have benefitted from Head Start’s comprehensive services – they have become business women and men, professors, teachers, lawyers, mayors, Members of Congress, athletes, foundation Presidents, Grammy-winning musicians, poets, and parents.
The National Head Start Association has organized eleven months of celebrations, beginning with a rally on the grounds of the Capitol in Washington, DC and ending with a White House Rose Garden commemoration. In between, there will be events in which every Head Start program can participate.

Head Start Olympics
Hundreds of preschoolers are expected to take the field for the NHA Head Start Olympics! The event will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 9:00am-12:00pm on the Lincoln High School football field. Preschoolers and families are invited to spend the morning participating in a series of non-competitive physical activities, designed to encourage them to practice physical fitness.
In 2012, NHA was recognized by Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign for promoting children’s health with a major overhaul of the children’s nutrition menu. The Head Start Olympics will inspire children and families to pair healthy meals and snacks with fun physical activities to create healthy, active lifestyles. NHA Head Start delegate and partner agencies, as well as other community partners, will be present to provide helpful resources on children’s health and nutrition to participants and families.
The Head Start Olympics is open to non-Head Start children. All children must be registered to participate. Registration will be available at 8:00am the morning of the event. Parents are NOT allowed to leave the premises, and must be present at the event at all times.
