A Body Love Champion

Our Oceanside Community Outreach Liaison Danielle Morgan knows a thing or two about taking care of her body—she’s been keeping it in motion since she was five years old. To learn more about Danielle and how she shows her body and family love, keep scrolling!

Bio:

Born and raised in Hillside, New Jersey, I moved to Virginia around middle school and stayed there through college where I double majored in Business Administration and Art. I was a competitive and sideline cheerleader from ages 5 to 22 years old. During my time in college, I met my now husband, Daivon. After graduating in 2020 I got married, moved to North Carolina, and had my first son. We moved to San Diego in 2022 where I had my second son. Then we relocated to Oceanside in 2023, and I had my third son in 2024. Some things I enjoy in my free time are painting/creating art, cooking and baking, shopping, and going on walks.

What do you enjoy most about BIH?

What I enjoy most about BIH is the community, not just amongst the staff but also amongst the participants. Everyone feels like family and like a safe space. It’s nice being able to help people and work with people that I genuinely want to help because I care about them and not just because “it’s my job”.

What do you look forward to with BIH?

I look forward to building the Oceanside location even bigger. I meet so many Black moms saying they wish this program was around when they were in this stage of life, and it was just not so local as it is now. I want to help the future mothers here in North County.

How do you love and care for your body?

I love my body by reminding myself of all that it’s done and how far it takes me. Looking at art history, all the most beautiful statues of women were figures of fertility with curves, lumps, and a baby in their arms. Stepping into motherhood made me look more like our beautiful ancestors before us and that should be celebrated. Remembering that makes me find love and appreciation for my body.

I take care of my body through physical activities. Getting my body moving, stretching, and outdoors always makes me feel more grounded and whole.

How do you care for and support your kids and family in loving and caring for their bodies?

I care and support my kiddos and family in  supporting their bodies but making them wholesome, well rounded foods. I believe there’s fuel food and fun food, and they both support our bodies through nutrition and through emotion— happiness. If I offer them whole foods from scratch at every meal, there’s room to offer fun foods like fresh baked cookies and everyone’s feeling good and growing great.
