Joy Freeman

Board Member 

Joy Freeman is an accomplished professional with a wealth of experience in multiple disciplines of Human Resources. With a Human Resources career spanning 28 years, including 17 years in supervisory and management, and leadership roles, Joy has consistently demonstrated a commitment to collaboration in leadership and strategic partnerships. She has since transitioned into her purpose, leaning into a long-awaited entrepreneurial endeavor and launching JOY Just Own Yours, LLC as a Speaker, Coach, and Trainer.

Through this venture, she designs and delivers impactful speaking, coaching and training programs in alignment with her expertise in leadership, communication, and empowerment. She is committed to helping others with building confidence, courage, and a conqueror mindset in life and leadership. She maintains a spirit of collaboration and partners with global leadership experts such as John Maxwell Executive Leadership, Blanchard Companies and Patrick Lencioni to facilitate proprietary programs that enhance employee experience and company culture.

Joy is also a Board Director for Arts Education Connection San Diego (AECSD), where she plays a vital role in financial assessment, program support, and strategic planning. AECSD brings a strong commitment to advocating for the arts in education and enriching the lives of children in the region. 

With previous roles at Amazon as Global Employee Relations Principal for Corporate, High Tech High as Chief People and Organizational Development Officer, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority as an HR Leader, and City of San Diego as Director of Citywide Human Resources Joy has been an instrumental lead in learning and development, employee relations, recruitment, talent management, performance management, compensation, classification, benefits, safety, discipline, labor relations, and organizational development. She has successfully partnered with C-Suite executives and senior leaders, providing thought leadership, coaching, and strategic guidance as a trusted advisor.

Joy holds a Master of Arts in Human Resources Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership. In addition to certifications in Human Resources, Life Coaching, Mental Health Coach, Mental Health First Aid Responder and Trainer, Suicide Prevention Awareness Trainer, Christian Counseling, and Advanced Mediation. Joy is a Maxwell Leadership Executive Program Leader, DISC Trainer and Consultant.
