Since 1914, the Neighborhood House Association (NHA) has been a “neighbor you can count on.” Over its 95 year history, NHA has changed the lives of thousands of people through a variety of social service programs.
This week, NHA commemorated its service legacy with the launch of its “Living Proof” campaign. The term “Living Proof” represents the reality of thousands of people living in our communities who have been impacted by NHA over the years.
“NHA has made an impact on the quality of life for multiple generations in the San Diego community and continues making an impact today,” said Luis Gonzalez, NHA’s Director of Community Affairs. “The campaign slogan connects the past with the present as numerous communities have benefited through social improvements, social service programs and the economic impact of NHA.”
NHA’s reach spreads far beyond social service programs, as its fiscal impact in San Diego County surpasses $190 million a year. The economical impact sustains employment opportunities, purchase of goods and services and financial growth for local communities.
As “Living Proof,” NHA hopes to tie together its successes in the community with giving a voice to those who have benefitted from its services.
The campaign features such clients as the Felix family, who credit NHA’s Head Start program with helping their autistic four year old son make a 180-degree turn around, saying “NHA gave our son the quality, special care we would never have been able to afford while we worked to build a better future for ourselves and our family. There is no feeling that compares to being able to go to work each day, knowing you have quality care for your child and that he is going to grow and develop to his full potential. Without Head Start, there is no way we could work and have our son’s special needs met.”
David, an NHA mental health client agrees about the life-altering services NHA offers: “NHA helped me to be able to finish college and pursue the career of my dreams.”
According to NHA Housing Counseling clients the Vue family, “We knew nothing about the home-buying process but NHA gave us the tools we needed to improve our credit history, get a safe mortgage and look for the perfect home. We are now confident in our ability to make the right decision for our family.”
